NSW POLICE ISSUES: SALARY CAMPAIGN 2005

Since 2003, members of the NSW Police have been involved in a salary campaign in an attempt to raise the income of members.

This campaign also involves improved award conditions and benefits relating to disengagement, salary increments, equipment and uniform and flexible/family friendly policies.

Improvements to quality of life conditions are also an issue with a minimum 10 hour break between shifts, limitations to the frequency and duration of on-call demands and other rostering penalties to be discussed.

Other entitlements in issue include weekend shift penalties, relieving allowance, plain clothes allowance, transfer entitlements, study time, uniform and reductions in red tape.

At present, the Association has entered the final stage of the wage campaign with the Commissioner and Government.

Members of the Association have an expectation of across the board salary increases, improved career structures, better conditions, better work/life balance and, most importantly, adequate death and disability protection.

At the time of publication, members had voted to accept a wage package that would take effect almost immediately and be phased in over the next few years.
